Everyone who’s anyone is excited about the return of “Game of Thrones” on April 24, and Moleskine is no exception. The beloved Italian manufacturer of luxury notebooks is so excited, in fact, that it created an entire line of “Game of Thrones”–themed notebooks to coincide with the release of Season Six. Even better, as part of the promotional campaign for the notebooks, Moleskine created a video that painstakingly recreates the show’s opening sequence using a set comprising over 7,600 paper cutouts.
Moleskine accomplished this feat of stop-motion animation in partnership with the Milan-based animation studio Dadomani. In the video, we see a paper version of the walled King’s Landing, complete with cogs, wheels and a collapsible paper castle. As the camera zooms away, we see that the scene takes place within the pages of Moleskine’s new, limited-edition notebooks.
The notebooks are quite nice, as well. Available in both ruled and blank editions, the journals feature silkscreen prints by the graphic designer Levente Szabó. The notebooks also include maps of Westeros and Essos as well as stickers and genealogies of the characters.
