As New York City’s largest design show, the International Contemporary Furniture Fair (ICFF) attracts attendees from all corners of the world with a showcase of the latest furnishings, accessories, fixtures and lighting. The latter is often an exciting product category as we see advances in lighting tech as well as more exploration in materials and forms. Articolo: Lumi
In its U.S. debut, Australian lighting brand Articolo presented unique elegant luminaires handcrafted by Australian artisans of blown glass and metal. One of our favorites is Lumi, which sports one mouth-blown vessel nested within a second vessel in clear, smoky or black glass. The lantern-style design comes in both a wall sconce and table lamp version.
Delta Light: Midispy Trimless
One of the most innovative architectural lights we’ve seen in some time, Midispy Trimless builds on Delta’s Spy collection of adjustable recessed, surface-mounted and track spotlights by combining aspects of all three types of light fixtures. It can be completely recessed to resemble an ordinary downlight but can be pulled downward to be a partially sunk can light of varying lengths. Fully extended, the cylindrical luminaire is a surface-mount can that can be aimed 350 degrees as needed.
Jason Krugman Studio: Jupiter
This pendant would do Buckminster Fuller proud: The geodesic shape is composed of gold circuit boards that, with gold-plated copper interiors and matte-black exteriors and integrated LEDs, give it found-material character. The pendant comes in three formats: 18-, 24- and 33.5-inch diameters.
Juniper: THIN Multiples
Stick LED luminaires are still trending in decorative lighting, and one company that’s been delving in this arena is Juniper. The brand has now added some linear suspension designs to its THIN series. Called THIN Multiples, these consist of a Single Array, Dyad, Triad and Tetrad, each of which utilize either 24- or 36-inch-long linear LED arrays with aged brass, black oxide or satin nickel finish.
LightArt: Echo
In an effort to combine lighting with acoustics, LightArt has developed ceiling lights that integrate sound-absorbing felt constructed with 50-percent-recycled PET. Echo features angled fins of the acoustic material much like spokes of a wheel and can be installed in multiples to create a dramatic ceiling landscape.
LZF: Stitches
The Spanish brand known for its sculptural luminaires crafted with real wood veneers introduced a pendant collection that playfully evokes folded and perforated paper forms. Four different shapes are available in any of the company’s 11 FSC-certified wood veneer colors.
Molo: cloud mast
Anyone who’s frequented ICFF in the past will be familiar with molo’s cloud softlight paper pendants, and this year, the company put a new spin on the beloved product: With cloud mast, a canopy of cloud forms are suspended from a floor stand and counterbalanced by hanging weights. Air currents within the space gently move the cloud lights for an intriguing effect.
Stickbulb: Boom
One of the early trendsetters in stick LED luminaires, this brand conceived by multidisciplinary firm RUX is at it again with new striking chandeliers. Among them is Boom, which sports varied-length linear wooden bulbs cantilevered at different angles from a central brass core to resemble an explosion of light. Select chandeliers are made with redwood that’s been reclaimed from demolished New York City water tanks.
