This mixed-use conceptualization aims to become a global icon and one of the premier designs in China. GreenbergFarrow worked to balance the goals of the Developer, the Government, and the key tenant of the office tower to arrive at a very western, and contemporary design. The project includes office, retail, entertainment, and residential components, with its retail portion incorporating a Book City, Cinemas and many other retail anchor tenants. The base of the podium includes a Television Broadcast Center and a multi-level Conference Center. The office tower and residential tower have been oriented to take advantage of 360 degree expansive views to the entire city.
Located in a tropical climate in Southern China, GreenbergFarrow’s proposal aimed to mitigate the potential solar heat gain and other effects of constant direct sunlight and heat. A series of sun shades integrated horizontally across the façade greatly reduce solar gain, significantly lower cooling costs, while allowing for opportunities of natural light to enter the spaces within. Diagonal angles have been cast into the corners of the buildings, allowing for seamless integration of solar arrays, the latest in sustainable technology. A cascading series of green spaces, scaled large and small, are located throughout the ground floor and upper terraces, bringing ecological sensitivity and a softer, inviting experience to all areas of the project.
