Zingonia is an exemplar frame in the movie of italian modern utopias, between
Adriano Olivetti’s Ivrea and No-Stop City by Archizoom.
Regardless to its recent destiny, the city planned by Renzo Zingone has
embedded the seeds of radical urban design and visionary architecture.
The original publication for the project it’s a time capsule of good will form
the ‘60, a cache of informations on desires, aspirations and dreams of italian
entrepreneurship.
As the Similaun Ötzi recovery, a revolution in the physical awareness of our
ancestors life and costumes, looking to Zingonia can give us inspiration,
knowledge, emotions and hope for unexpected completions of every utopia,
given enough time to survive reality.
Currently Zingonia is under a process of renovation that will be the shared destiny
of modern and contemporary architecture: recycling vs construction.
Zingonia needs to be exposed in the Biennale to avoid oblivion and decay of its
cultural roots: amnesia is the only real enemy of our utopias.
The pavilion, the arch and the graph: Italy as a generator of reality
Under a sunny sky (1.0 Coelux) Italy has been waving through governments,
economical ups and downs, criss-crossing laws and social revolutions (2.0
Graphic). Everyone in Italy has uncertainty in his DNA, from people, to companies
to politicians and investors.

Au contraire, architects and developers tend to be affected by a linear optimism
or an intrinsically incapacity of foresight (3.1 The city builder, 3.2 The jack, 3.3
The dream), surrogated by high aesthetical standards and communication skills.
Projects are well crafted visions spanning to an average projection of 25 years
where time is seen as a simple flowing parameter with no consideration of
changes.
Architecture (4.1 The bones, 4.2 The skin, 4.3 The flesh) nevertheless, given a
sufficient amount of time, is able to transform urban utopias in reality, life and
memory.
Users (5.1 The Nightmare, 5.2 The Actors) of space are meanwhile able to give a
significance to any condition, no matter how desperate, in the continuos search
of preciousness and identity.
