We propose a simple structure - a vertically oriented and tapered cylinder, made of layered and stacked units of recycled XPS foam (aka rigid insulation) - to create a naturally cooled and vegetated environment amidst blazing Texan heat.Through the combination of the chimney effect and the high insulation and moisture-resistance value of a common and unglamorous material (XPS form often ends up in a landfill where it will spend thousands of years) a moment of environmental repose is created. Crossing the sweltering street, a passerby will stop and enjoy a green mound with a dark interior space filled with cooled air...and art.
