The family who commissioned Z-House had a clear vision and distinct requirements for their contemporary home. The result is a clean, open plan, with no wasted space, flooded with natural light. The Z-shaped architecture breaks the floor plane in two directions, allowing the parents to sleep on the same level as their children, but with independent privacy. The raising of the Z conveys dynamic character and provides 12-foot ceilings in the upper-level kitchen and living space. Z-house, located in Ravenna, also features a private courtyard, low-maintenance materials and heated concrete floors. The structure’s muted natural colors purposefully blend in with the surrounding neighborhood.
