We were commissioned to design a hotel in Tonghai, Yunnan – an ancient city with a long history and profound culture. Through on-site research and competitive analysis, we found that what the area truly lacks is not more hotels, but unique, irreplaceable experiences.
Located amid mountains, forests and waterfronts, the site boasts abundant natural landscape resources. After comprehensive evaluation, we positioned the hotel as a light-luxury mountain wilderness resort.

Site Level & Functional Layout
The original 60-meter height difference on the site is resolved into 7 major terraces:
• Guest rooms are placed on the higher terraces to ensure unobstructed views and privacy.
• Near the mountain, dual terraces separate the upper-level lobby and lower-level banquet facilities efficiently.

Public Area Design – Three Experience Modules
a. Social Core Module
• Panoramic Lobby: To establish a high-end positioning, guests are immediately impressed by core landscape resources upon arrival, directly translating natural value into experiential value.
• Infinity Pool: Designed to visually merge with the natural surroundings. Its core value lies not in athletic function, but as a visual art installation – creating an iconic memory point and strengthening social media appeal.
b. Physical & Mental Wellness Module
• Forest SPA: To build core wellness competitiveness and increase average spending, SPA facilities are set in secluded forest areas, integrating professional healing with natural scenery.
• Yoga & Meditation Platform: Located in a private valley zone for a deeply immersive experience.
c. Exploration & Interaction Module
• Waterfront Leisure Corridor: More than a walkway, it serves as an ecological corridor connecting viewing platforms and encouraging slow exploration.
• Valley Landscape Structures: Bonfire areas, lounge seats and other landscape elements scattered across the valley. They act as elegant accents by day and vibrant social hubs by night.
