The Philippines is a tropical country. Thus it only has two seasons. Rainy season and Dry (Summer) Season.
The Yu house is a three story with basement single family house. It is a mixture of Modern and tropical architecture in order to address the climate of the country. Windows were recessed, Wooden slats and ledges were introduced in the design as well as balconies in order to minimize direct sunlight from coming in the house during summer time and provide shading from the rain during rainy seasons.
Ceiling heights were also increased to give the inside of the house a more airy feeling. Passive cooling is the number 1 consideration of the architect in the design of this house. Open planning and end to end window openings are integral elements in order to have an unobstructed air natural air circulation inside the house.
