The experimental initiative taken by the client and the
architect was to combine group pedagogics with trend sports and all sorts of
body experiences
to give new orientation to youths in a difficult part of the
city. This was due to the knowledge that the mental development of a child
depends heavily
on the stimulation of somatic motivity, and that neuronal
patterns can be altered even as an adult.
We put new architectural components into a former factory
building in the historical Klöckner-Humboldt-Werke to introduce a
threedimensional playground
with protected and open areas, challenging body movement and
sport games as well as introducing a place of identity to adolescents with
competent support.
