The legendary Four Seasons Hotel, originally designed by WZMH and built in 1971, was for many years a famed gathering place for celebrities and socialites, hosting weddings, galas and international events, including the Toronto International Film Festival. The hotel was a catalyst for Yorkville’s evolution into a luxury destination. Yorkville Plaza transforms this iconic building into high-end residences and complements it with the addition of a 40-storey glass tower and 11-storey boutique office building. The new slender glass tower, with its emphasized verticality and angled, cantilevered upper levels, includes two condominiums with separate access and lobbies. The office building features a dynamic composition of staggered terraces on the north face that address the sensitivity of the setbacks and architectural scale along Yorkville Avenue. Unifying all three buildings, the contemporary two-storey glass and stone podium provides prominent high-end retail, sumptuous residential amenities, a striking water feature, and a living green wall. Honouring WZMH’s early interventions in the
Yorkville Plaza maintains the distinctive through site pedestrian laneways, and further supports the public realm by incorporating art installations, feature sculptures, enticing lighting, and a rich palette of materials.
