In 2015, as part of the urban renewal project in Yingtan City, Jiangxi Province, the design of Yingtan Normal School Affiliated Primary School began. Located in the city center, the school site borders the expansive Donghu Park to the east, overlooks the Xinjiang River to the north, and is adjacent to Jianshe Road to the west, aligning with the city's economic hub. This strategic positioning allows for a seamless integration of the school grounds with urban spaces, providing students with a beautiful learning environment and easy access to urban amenities.
The school is more than just a container for completing education; architects envision it as a space of freedom and inclusivity, capable of nurturing children's joyful childhood and providing them with an enjoyable place to learn. Therefore, in the project design, we aimed to create diverse open spaces that foster as much interaction among children as possible.
The design adopts an intensive layout to respond to site constraints, maximizing ground-level activity spaces. The playground and buildings are naturally divided by a single corridor, eliminating traditional walls that separate spaces. Facilities such as the gymnasium and music rooms are integrated as small boxes scattered throughout the main building, creating varied spatial dynamics with staggered heights and interlocking forms. The overall design emphasizes transparency and openness, expanding the scope of activity spaces available.
