Yacht house is a resilient, functional, low budget, small, and playful designed dwelling that responds to mans immediate need for change. The model should not be envisioned as something precarious or transient, but rather, as a response to the need of immediate adjustment to a new life in a flexible and permanent space.
The creator envisioned the possibility of being able to observe the vastness of the Casablanca Valley from a kind of wooden kaleidoscope, where different beams of light would filter throughout the day. He wanted to generate a type of haptic interior space that would allow the senses of touch, sound and sight to have immediate connection with what was at hand.
To fulfill this purpose, the creator was inspired by his childhood dream of inhabiting a yacht. A desire that was not driven by an eagerness to sail, but rather because of the playful way in which one lives in minimal spaces, with functional elements at hand or in close proximity. With this in mind, he thought of a small 18sqm artifact.
The structure would have to solve the basic, such as sleeping, eating, resting and personal hygiene, whilst avoiding a sense of constraint. Instead, the interior had to be perceived as spacious and comfortable as possible, with vertical and horizontal movements.
The design, consists of five fundamental spaces: the living-kitchen area with folding furniture and sliding door; the bathroom with windows on three of its axes to separate the shower, sink, washing machine and toilet areas; cellars on the back of the house that include the water heater and storage space for luggage and food; the terrace , sheltered by a hanging volume, allows to support a Brazilian hammock; and the bedroom, designed as a large cabin that houses two beds, suspended by steel cables.
