Client approached Perimeter Architects with the
simple request to “clean up” the place. Three concerns ultimately surfaced:
noise, vibration, and outdoor privacy. Restructuring the west wall, floor
assemblies, and introducing closed cell insulation drastically reduced the ‘El’
brown line train vibration. All west windows were omitted except for one which now
frames the train at the Belmont stop. All light is brought in from above
through a series of operable skylights. The standard “raised” deck is simply replaced
with a sunken courtyard addressing need for privacy. Not a single square foot
was added.
