Yanling Guesthouse is part of the Yan Garden development located in Shipai, Dongguan. The existing building contains a rich history ‘documenting’ the changes in the area; from a former entertainment complex to a school and now a mixed-use building which includes art galleries, workshops, guesthouse and a rooftop restaurant.
To re-establish Yanling Guesthouse as the landmark, we took advantage of its location at the top of the hill and feature a lantern like canopy extension that reflects the concept of flocks of swallow (yan) taking flight into the sky. To preserve and present the extensive history of the building, both the exterior and interior texture and structure have been retained and preserved to showcase its history over time.
The guesthouse lobby is kept small and hidden to create a secretive and exclusive entrance experience for the guests.
An additional 4th storey restaurant is to be added on top of the existing building with lightweight structure. The open space layout allows flexible function adaptation and it also features an outdoor balcony overlooking the lake and the Yan Garden landscape.
