The Yangtze River is the most important cultural landscape belt of China, while the Three Gorges Dam is one of the largest hydroelectric project in the world. Since this project is less than 4 kilometers away from the dam, it is necessary to shape a space image that fits in with the river and the dam by way of a small-sized building. Therefore, it is not only a transportation building, but also a landscape and cultural building. This project is scheduled to be completed in 2020.
Regional culture: The Three Gorges is an art palace of bizarre stones where the abstract rocks of the Three Gorges poetically change into formal language. With natural rocks facing the huge man-made dam,and modern structure in dialogue with historical events, the status quo of the local buildings as a whole that are short of characteristics is reshaped.
Efficiency and comfort: Once put into use, the complex building will offer the transfer service for 1.1 million passengers every year. The streamline of entering and leaving the port will be finished in the fastest manner for the purpose of ensuring travel efficiency and public security.
Landscape hallmark: The body of the building is expressed like a diamond crystal erecting beside the river. While passing Zigui, passengers can watch the outline of the building from erecting. Because of the tri-dimensional waiting space and transparent glass curtain wall, the building is convenient for passengers to feast their eyes on the landscape along the Yangtze River.
Economy and green: The local place abounds with stone materials. For the sake of saving cost, local stone materials are selected for landscape. For the purpose of enhancing the thermal performance of the building, natural ventilation via the atrium and the top side windows is utilized to produce chimney effect.
