Designed by Kevin S. Marion while employed at Fuller Architecture in Mocksville, NC. Kevin also performed Construction Administration of Phase One (2010) with Fuller and then of Phase Two (2013) with TAOksm, PLLC. The Yadkin Cultural Arts Center is an adaptive reuse project located in the heart of Yadkinville, NC. The existing 10,500 sf building, originally an automotive dealer and shop, has been many different things over the years.
The new facility provides the community a 193 seat performing arts theatre with state of the art audio/visual capabilities, a fine arts gallery, staff offices, and internet cafe and instructional classrooms. The design intent is to maintain a historical presence on the Main Street facade while introducing contemporary elements on the the plaza side. The plaza is finished in brick pavers and flanked by a dramatic glass entry cut into the side of the existing building. The new gallery space has flooring and wall cladding made from reclaimed North Carolina barn wood. Other sustainable features include spray foam insulation, low V.O.C. paints & carpet, lineoleum, etc. Glass and porcelain tile art installations adorn the exterior wall facing the plaza as well as the walls of the restrooms.
