Stevens & Wilkinson provided architectural consulting services to AECom to complete the Georgia Regional Transportation Authority (GRTA). The project scope consisted of architectural and Furniture, Fixtures and Equipment (FFE) design, architectural contract documents and contract administration of the construction for a 38,000-square-foot bus operating facility, located on Frontage Road in Forest Park, Ga.
The operating facility design included the demolition of an existing “big box” retail store and design of a new 28,000-square-foot, 12-bay bus maintenance facility and a new 10,000-square-foot administrative building. Both buildings were designed as pre-engineered metal buildings.
GRTA’s new Xpress Operations & Maintenance Facility was constructed to provide crucial operational space for its growing bus fleet and will provide more flexibility for how the organization’s transit buses are fueled and maintained. Additionally, this brand-new facility features sustainability and energy-efficient upgrades, as well as state-of-the-art offices and meeting spaces.
Other key features include:
• 6 drive-thru and 6 pull-in bays
• Touchless bus wash bay
• 70 percent water recycling
• LED lighting under fueling canopy
• LED technology with motion sensors
• High-tech control center
• Video wall for dispatch
• Bus driver lounge
• 125 employee parking spaces
• 98 transit bus parking spaces
