The Xinhui Maternity Hospital has to be relocated due to its increasing needs. The new site is situated on the outskirt of the city connected by expressway and train to greater Jiangmen area. Design of the new hospital pays respect to the lush rolling mountains on site. The three major departments: maternity center, women's clinic and children's clinic, form the three nodes with shared function space in between. Terraced balcony provides patients with outdoor areas while allowing fresh air and light to penetrate the rooms. The new hospital has a GFA of 68 500m2 with a total of 500 beds and one basement level.
The project will be built in two phases allowing extension possibilities. A Yuezi Clubhouse is located adjacent to the main structure with its own access and drop off. The design is developed on a typical 8,4m column slab structure. The façade is color paint with standard operable windows. The colors changes according to the functions behind – pediatric section versus women section and maternity quarters. For shading device and increased privacy, a curtain of aluminum plates is suspended in front of the façade. The plates are hung loose as to be moved with the breeze of winds. They reflect their surrounding and provide moving texture to the overall static facade. The podium blends in to the broken mountain edges with its stone cladded façade.
A public elevated Park on Level 4 provides patients and visitors with pleasant rest areas, featuring a café, sport facilities and break out zones.
