The design of Xie Zilong Photography Museum begins with thinking about the rel
ationship between architecture, city and nature. The existing ecological wetlan
d reveals the connection between architecture and city, and provides a re-exami
nation of a different perspective on urban architectural landscapes that has be
en in commonplace: Architecture, people, and nature are equal, embracing the wo
rld in a way of intergrowth and coexistence. The building itself is a huge "art
istic self-contained body". The construction using only white fair-faced concre
te and a highly intensive, on-site integrated casting method is not only an ori
ginal condensed of architectural poetry, but also a thinking and responding to
the Chinese traditional idea of “thrift-worship”.
The Photography Museum is a place to store memories and awaken viewers' memor
ies. A series of constituent elements such as cross paths, arc bridges, boardwa
lks, and small docks suggest collective unconsciousness about nature and memor
y. The Photography Museum uses a familiar object in daily life to build a maze
full of differences and time stagnation, and guides the viewer to pay attention
to the strangeness and physicality after “Verfremdu
