As the ancient capital of 13 feudal Chinese dynasties, Xi'an retains city walls that embody Han and Tang memories spanning over 2,000 years. Serving as the only loop line of Xi'an Metro, Line 8 traces the contours of the former Chang’an City walls.
As a pivotal node on the loop, Hanyao Station is distinguished by its unique column-free vaulted design. More than a transit point, it leverages modern architectural language to reinterpret regional culture, transforming into an urban public space that seamlessly bridges historical legacy with the contemporary city.
Deriving its inspiration from the artistic conception of Qujiang Lake and the romantic legend in the Qin Opera Wudianpo, the design abstracts the essence of the "water sleeves" gesture. Through this architectural metamorphosis, it intertwines historical memory and artistic form, culminating in a fluid spatial narrative.
Two principal “water sleeves” merge organically with the vaulted ceiling, their form intrinsically guiding movement while maintaining clear height. Above the escalator cluster, a crystalline – reminiscent of a diamond water droplet – anchors the space. This interplay of fluid curves and a central icon not only clarifies spatial organization for efficient flow but also orchestrates a poetic and memorable journey.
Furthermore, the design incorporates coordinated acoustic, lighting, and electrical systems with Holiday, Standard, and Energy-Saving modes ensuring that technology serves both human-centered ambiance and ecological responsibility.
