Manning Architects led a team of world-class professionals in the design of a 4,800 seat convocation center on the campus of Xavier University in New Orleans. This anticipated LEED Silver certified facility replaces the University’s
original gymnasium which was severely damaged during Hurricanes Katrina and Rita in 2005.
The two story Convocation Center will host a variety of events for the University, including official basketball and volleyball competitions, intramural sports activities, speaking engagements, and musical performances. The facility has the capacity to accommodate up to 4,800 guests for convocation ceremonies.
Proximate to the Main Campus of Xavier University but separated by a canal, the site for this new facility is adjacent to the recently renovated Xavier Art Village, also designed by Manning Architects. The convocation center facility begins to establish a strong identity for Xavier’s West Campus by creating an anchoring presence as the first major development in this growing portion of the campus.
