The new school for Wuskwi Sipihk First Nation was a long overdue state of the art facility designed to replace a temporary school facility that has been in use 20 years passed its life cycle. Through a series of community engagement sessions, several culturally relevant Indigenous design features were incorporated into the design.
The distinct facade is derived from the surrounding birch tree forest and influenced by Wuskwi Sipihk First Nations community name, Birch River. The facility features a gymnasium, cafeteria/kitchen, land-based learning classrooms, and outdoor amenities that include playgrounds, fire pit, and soccer/baseball field.
