Description
ANGILETTI design studio wins competition to redesign the interior for the World Bank head office, Uganda.
The design was created around a highly interactive interplay of form and materials creating a very organic but functional aesthetic. Part of the client brief was to convert the existing reception and corridor spaces that had a seemingly dull aura into an interesting working environment that exudes the warmth and comfort of a modern institution.
The predominant idea of this project is the integration of free flowing sinusoidal elements of design, with maximum visual and spatial impact. All spatial elements are integrated into one visual composition; The curved ceiling gracefully transforms into the curved wall, the floor shape is a direct mirror of the ceiling above; the reception desk is a sculptural marvel, sculpted from timber, and curves in two axes, transforming into a display top; a timber drop down ceiling above the desk directly mimics the form of the desk.
Further articulation of elements was created by the extrusion of features like the ceiling, and the wall. A balanced richness and contrast of the colours is attained through the innovative combination of timber against the white washed wall and the porcelain floor. Efficient artificial illumination is attained in the ceiling, wall and desk lights which all add to the rich vibrant ambience of the space. All elements in the space are hand crafted, from the reception desk, the drop down ceiling, as well as the branding logo. An appreciation of the entire space on entry was enhanced by the introduction of frameless glass doors that run the entire length of the reception space.
The project works on creating exhilarating yet workable space and explores elements needed for the proper functioning, comfort and visual harmony of the reception environment.
