This K-12 building was constructed in 1932; 1945 and 1977 additions followed. The district required additional space, major building renovations, reconstructed athletic fields and a bus garage. This five-phased project included the construction of a bus garage and a 35,000-square-foot addition to house classrooms, cafeteria/serving and a distinct main entrance (which was used as a swing space while the existing building was renovated)–all while the building was occupied.Renovations included the library, which now provides an inviting, relaxed lounge experience for older students. A full-size storytime “book” nook provides the history of the town for younger students. The auditorium also was renovated, including reconstruction of the balcony, which had been enclosed and used as classroom space. The last two phases included construction of a maintenance facility and the replacement of the slate roof. The addition was constructed using insulated concrete forms and brick veneer; HVAC included rooftop air-handling units and classroom unit ventilators. New baseball, softball and soccer fields were constructed, and pervious concrete was installed for driveways and lots.
