Keenan + Kenny Architects, Ltd. designed this 10,000 SF addition of McLean Laboratory to include core staging, core storage, laboratory testing, and a new core sampling apparatus assembly areas. The storage environment of the cores is critical to the work carried out by scientists and technicians. Therefore, many factors had to be considered. Artificial lighting for example, can have certain adverse effects upon samples. As a result, day-lighting was integrated throughout the design, with a system which has the equivalency R-value of a standard insulated wood stud wall. The project received its Certificate of Occupancy in March of 2006.
