Undertaken by ADP's Yeovil studio, Woodland Court provides a standard of student accommodation seldom seen, with over 350 premium study bedrooms, complete with en-suite facilities and seamlessly integrated technology. But not only does Woodland Court look good, it also works hard too. The building underwent thorough lifecycle costing analysis and was successfully delivered to a tight budget. The project is also one of only four student residences to have achieved the technically challenging rating of BREEAM ‘Excellent’. ADP’s innovative four storey scheme was the result of extensive consultation with a wide range of stakeholders. The evolved design has successfully met concerns about visual impact by utilising an open-sided courtyard arrangement, and stepping-down the roof line towards the boundary. The landscape scheme provided further opportunities for visual screening and an increase in bio-diversity, replacing a gang-mowed grass area with native tree and low-level planting in the new courtyards, reminiscent of traditional collegiate quadrangles. The project was recently Highly Commended in the Sustainability category of the Royal Institute of Chartered Survyors (RICS) Awards 2010.
