A new home to the side of an existing house
The site is a wedge-shaped plot between a terrace of houses built in 2007 and apartments built in 1980. The owners of the house adjacent to the plot asked us to design a home there.
Our approach was to create a house that mediated the gap between these two relatively recent buildings. To do this have stepped our proposal back at the ground and first floor. We have created a brick base of sawtooth bricks in a Staffordshire blue slate. This blue slate colour can be found within the brick details of the surrounding building.
In contrast, the first floor is clad in oak panels and sits on the brick base. At the first floor, a balcony overlooks the large rear garden, which is connected to the inside via a bespoke oak and glass conservatory.
