The construction of the residential and commercial building Gamper
consists of a one-story base part, penetrating into the steep terrain and
following along Schenna street, as well as an attached building following the
outlines of the old building on the north, east and south sides.
The base part tries – like a "retaining wall" – to catch the
steep terrain and forms a facade facing the street. It includes two business
premises.
The principal business office, a branch of the "Tiroler
Goldschmiede“ (Tyrolean goldsmiths) consists of a large introverted space,
which is divided into three intimate sales areas, and connected to the uphill
side are adjoining rooms and the customer bathroom.
The exposure of the sales room is taken care of through a glass
mezzanine, which on one hand brings daylight into the offices and on the other
hand also seperates the attached building from the base.
The aboveground structure – separated through the horizontal glass slit
– corresponds to the old building in its outlines and has three residential
units. The slightly bent sides of the facade and the uniform materialization of
the building give it a sculptural character. The facades, as well as the roof
are clothed with Eternit.
