Thomas Jacobsen was commissioned to renovate &
completely redesign an original 1950's yellow brick home. The project involved a complete redesign only leaving the basic envelope,
everything internally was removed and replaced, all internal walls were removed and all services were updated. The brief called for an interpretation of circles, this theme started with the pattern in the cobble driveway and front entrance area and this was carried inside to the stair balustrade up into the joinery in the kitchen and bathrooms. the client also called for a rich palette of finishes and colours, real silver leaf was used on the 18 meter curved wall in the foyer which was highlighted with star LED's, the green marble floor was sourced from India and 480 hand polished Lexan rods were used in the illuminated stair balustrade, which is highlighted with piano gloss Palisander timber with a solid mahogany CNC machined handrail. for the outside the driveway, planter boxes, landscaping, balustrades and windows were redesigned and replaced. Special tiles made in japan were sourced, these tiles were made from 100% recycled material, all external areas were either glad in tiles or zinc or copper nothing was permitted to be painted, so again like the inside a rich selection of colours and finishes were used, everything had to be low maintenance and long lasting. Back inside the three bathrooms were clad in
stone and venetian glass tiles, custom thermoformed corian sinks and curved joinery based on sailing yachts in high gloss were used. the kitchen utilised all curved joinery and custom curved glass for the range hood and display cabinet. Bespoke furniture was designed and manufactured for specific areas even the car garage was given the special treatment with black & orange walls a striking lighting highlighted with a copper clad door hand nailed with copper nails. a project which utilises many different techniques learned from
the marine industry.
