Wingate Hughes Architects (WHA) has the ability to envision, conceptualize, and produce elegant designs of office desks, lights and acoustical panels. The WHA designed a custom desk system, system dubbed “Plane Table”, allows flexibility for future company growth by giving clients the ability to seat up to three people at each side of the table. Anchors in the floor hold the “Plane Tables” in place eliminating the need for outboard legs. The center steel trough provides access to power at desk height while keeping cords neat and away from feet. Currently hot DC tech firms nclud and Endgame also enjoy the use of these new systems. Wingate Hughes created custom light fixtures made from West Virginia barn timbers. The timbers are routed out to make a trough containing a Superbright LED light tape. The designers worked with lighting experts to configure a dimmer system to provide the necessary warm and cool temperatures that enhance colors. Wingate Hughes devised interesting ways to create noise-buffering acoustics. In their office WHA used 368 sf of repurposed whiskey barrel staves (from River Drive Lumber, Maine) along the entire expanse of their open office to lower the noise level. (Oh, and to be cool).
