Located in the Nelson Preserve neighborhood of Suncadia in eastern Washington, this house is affectionately named the Wing House by our aviator and artist clients. Designed to inspire a sense of freedom, the home is oriented to take advantage of southern and westerly mountain views with a deep roof overhang designed to optimize solar heat gain in the winter and block out the hot summer sun. The generous roof also provides a protected outdoor seating area that is anchored around an outdoor fire pit. During the warmer months, the dining space opens up so that the table can move out onto the patio. The entry sequence provides a view of the vistas beyond and direct connection to the hub of the home. Flanking the main living spaces are a master suite on the north and guest suite on the south. A small nook off the living area acts as cozy movie room that can be closed off with large sliding barn doors.
