Winery “Dominio do Bibei”

Langullo, Spain

YEAR
2007
In a territory as humanized as these hills, molded by the hands of tenants who for centuries have cultivated the land, our main interest was to seek suggestive patterns to guide our interventionUnder the rugged appearance of vegetation, appropriating over the slopes, remained indelible traces of the terraces that domesticated, centuries ago, such steep topography. The landscape formed by thwarts following the hill’s contour, provoques remembrance that inflicts deep emotion, impossible to obviate when intervening in such sensitive scenery. With the premise that holds the pre-existing dialogue with nature, and looking for full integration, we decided to fragment and distribute the different buildings staggered throught out a steep hill. The conceptual strategy to seek the traditional system of construction on slopes, as well as to provoque minimal impact on the landscape, decided rightly to use gravity as the system to use for wine production. In the same way, it allowed the use of bioclimatic cooling systems by partially burying the buildings. The communication between the different volumes has been resolved through an external staircase excavated in the land, seeking reference on traditional “socalcos” that forms the vineyards terraces. Both inside and outside, the materials used in this proyect, reflect through their essence, rationality and imperfection, to be a sincere testimony of the hands that worked them.Enhancing the landscape, accentuating its uniqueness, from the most romantic view, maintaining its potent image, giving all the attention to the intrinsic values of the environment, and participation through tradition, all in the most anonymous manner. Neither time nor place, neither utopia nor uchronia.
