This duplex apartment is on the top two floors of an historically converted Georgian town house in Belgravia, London. The existing apartment had a small footprint which comprised of small rooms with low ceilings, so required full remodelling and refurbishment. Being a Grade II Listed building within the Grosvenor Estate, these works had to comply with stringent regulations.
Flower Michelin’s design dramatically increased the apartment’s sense of scale and space by raising the lower floor ceiling into the previously unused ‘eaves’ space of the roof. New rooflights were then inserted to create double height vaulted ceilings to the open plan living area to the rear and to the Master Bedroom and Master Ensuite to the front of the building.
The internal floor plan was reconfigured to meet the Client’s brief and accommodate three bathrooms and three bedrooms: the existing staircases were reconfigured and top lit from a large opening rooflight; internal walls were removed to form a large open plan living space; and other previously unused eaves and loft spaces were opened up to accommodate new built in storage;
Through the use of concealed lighting details, bespoke joinery and a light palette of high-end finishes, including a Boffi kitchen and full height marble slabs, the design maximises available space and creates a unique design.
The project provides a sleek, minimal and contemporary flat which serves both as a family home for their two children, and a beautiful space in which to entertain friends in this highly sought after Belgravia enclave.
