HM Architecten has been developing in Rotterdam’s Wijnhaveneiland a complex comprising 365 dwellings, underground car park and commercial space in three towers on two substructures, following the outline of the original reconstruction plan along Jufferstraat,Bierstraat and Wijnbrugstraat, for De Wilgen Vastgoed in Rotterdam. The choice of materials for the towers is influenced by the location and orientation of the dwellings. The principal facades of the residential portion are fully glazed so as to provide unimpeded views. The north and south walls are of brickwork. The glazed facades are of an angled design, creating a lively aspect that changes depending on the light and the observer’s position.
