This project involves the design of a new 5000 SF
main house and 1200 SF guest house and pool on a 6 acre sloping site with
expansive views of the Napa Valley. The steeply graded site creates a wooded
backdrop for the residence and gardens below. The main house is positioned to
capture the panoramic views of the Napa Valley hills and vineyards to the east.
An enclosed courtyard of ornamental cherry trees on the west side of the house
provides more intimate exterior space. On the interior, wide plank walnut
floors and soft white walls provide a warm contemporary aesthetic. On the
exterior, horizontal cedar siding, warm gray stone and integral color concrete
combine to create a palette that is both rural and modern. Expansive gardens of
fruit trees, flowers and a small vineyard surround the structures on all sides,
providing color and texture throughout the year. The project was completed in
June 2010.
