The new facade, acting as a sort of VERTICAL
PLAZA, is actually a new transparent super-flat building that creates a new,
surprising, public space - enlarging that already existing, externally of the
present cinema- and offering a multilevel promenade, with view on Moscow. This space, defined on three
sidewalls by transparent highly resilient laminated glass panels in Sentry
Glass -treated to guarantee the insulation- and by the existing facade of the
cinema on the fourth one, is designed to contain various public spaces: a
cafeteria, a library, an exhibition area, and a museum, as well as public areas
of free access, equipped with wireless. From outside, the external wall of
the vertical plaza works as a large-scale screen - during the Festival period,
or simply during the night - giving
information about movie program, managed by a huge back-projection
system. Internally a large, pleated curtain
made of Tyvek, visually separates on demand, the Cinema by the vertical plaza,
also adding a benefit to the building energy. Setted on the Vertical Plaza is a
giant, three-dimensional gemstone, which we like to imagine how a solid, WHITE
CLOUD, resting on the red carpet. This volume is realized in white Corian, with
the exception of a big module on the top, and few cuts, made of glass, in order
to allow people to enjoy the magical winter sky of Moscow.People could experience
the space of the white cloud at different levels, from the entrance hall opened
to the cinema, up to the restaurant and lounge bar, located on the roof. Finally are in white
tiles of Corian also the lateral facades covering the existing building.
