Treehugger – a house that embraces trees
This Single residence on a urban plot evolved from a rigorous inquiry into the particulars of location and program.
With the understanding of our client’s priorities, values and aspirations, we got to know our challenges. He wanted us to “Design a House around a Tree” to cherish his old memories with his Grandparents. The reference was the traditional “Nadumuttam Courtyard House Concept” of the Kerala houses that are composed around a focal landscape feature.
Our challenge was to achieve the same ambiance in an urban scenario !!!
The large footprint of a traditional Kerala house and its virtues had to be imbibed in a smaller urban footprint.
As a response to his design brief, we came up with idea of a ‘house that embraces trees.
We call it as “Treehugger, a contemporary urban residence with Values of Kerala architecture.
