The clients for this project initially asked us to make additions to the existing bungalow. A professional couple with a passion for architecture and interior design, they wanted a simple and bold contemporary family house that would encourage outdoor living and maximise views of their spacious garden. Rather than make alterations to the existing building, BARC ultimately advised them that a more viable and cost effective solution was to rebuild. We designed a crisp, light filled building, simple yet self assured in form and one of the few contemporary buildings in Plymouth. BARC worked very closely with the client in developing the brief and then the design. They have explored different forms of construction and materials in order to work within the tight budget but still achieve the desired aesthetic.
“We have always wanted to build something unique and modern, tailored to our own requirements. This home will not only enable us to express ourselves and improve our way of life but hopefully will also inspire our children to follow their dreams.”
In December 2016, Barc Architects was awarded an LABC (Local Authority Building Control) Building Excellence Award for Best New Dwelling in Plymouth for our White Oaks project.
