As new residents of a "fly-in community," this couple, both pilots,
requested a house to accommodate their two airplanes. The solution
centers on employing an economical and efficient structural system that
provides the appropriate spans. The residential portion of the structure is
enhanced with materials and elements more appropriate to the living spaces. Concepts of flight and flying serve as inspiration for many of the forms and detailing. The design offers open floor planning within a two-story loft type space.
Expansive glass curtain walls and other windows all "weather-vane" to views down the nearby runway. The "Control Tower" acts as both an entry expression and observation loft.
