Ubuntu Design Group’s speculative proposal for Durban’s Point Waterfront reimagines a key site behind the iconic Chairman venue and near uShaka Marine World—an area rich with cultural history and untapped urban potential.
Rooted in the philosophy that the minimum requirement to dream is a place to call home, this concept envisions a regenerative urban development that centers dignity, affordability, and African aesthetics. The scheme introduces mid-income designer apartments, an African art gallery, ground-floor retail spaces, and commercial office units—together cultivating a vibrant, mixed-use ecosystem tailored to the growing community of young professionals in the area.
The design takes cues from a contemporary interpretation of African luxury, creating a narrative of inclusion without compromising design integrity. More than a speculative build, the project serves as a manifesto for equitable urban renewal and a celebration of everyday dreamers.
