Working in collaboration with AECOM (formerly EDAW, Inc.), Copley Wolff Design Group developed design concepts for the design competition phase of the Rose Kennedy Greenway extending from Christopher Columbus Park to Rowes Wharf in downtown Boston. Continuing through the design and construction phases, the CWDG team offered their technical expertise of the site, developed through CWDG’s work on the Central Artery/Tunnel Surface Restoration Streetscape project. The Wharf District Parks design is meant to serve as a common ground for both Boston residents and visitors, with the central feature being a grand fountain located in an area dubbed the “Great Room.” The parks are envisioned as multipurpose, seasonally changing spaces that help reunify the city to its waterfront. The design takes into account eye-level views as well as views from the surrounding buildings. Components of the design include a Mother’s Walk promenade, historic interpretation, lawns, decorative four-season plantings, and the accommodation of possible small park buildings.
