Purchased
by interior designer Mar Silver for her own family in Westport, Connecticut,
the original house was 4,600 square feet. It was fully gutted and enlarged to
8,300 square feet, with a new studio above the garage, as well as an addition
comprising a Basement, Family Room, and Master Suite. To address the scale
difference between the old and new portions, we separated the addition,
connected on the second level by a glass-enclosed walkway looking down onto the
pool terrace in front and garden in back. Inside, the separation is marked by a
large rectangular skylight, bringing light between the Kitchen and Family Room.
