Westonbirt, The National Arboretum has received HLF development funding for the creation of a tree canopy experience accessible to the public for interpretation, education, and to gain a new perspective on tree life and the historic landscape of Westonbirt. This project will increase the range of visitor activities provided at Westonbirt, provide additional value to the learning experience and establish a visual connection between Westonbirt House and the Arboretum. The main aim of Westonbirt is ‘to connect people and trees’.The concept was to re-masterplan the site as several problem areas were identified which we believe detracted from the visitors experiences of the park. A new masterplan to integrate the distinct natures of sliver wood and the arboretum was the main focus, facilitated through a vantage point walkway and a series of highly reflective follies dotted through the entire woodland park. A new digital archive would seek to collect images taken daily from the locations of the folly's and catalogued to provide a visual stimulus to visitors of the attraction deep in the Cotswold countryside.
