When Westmount Country Club, widely known for creating spectacular parties and events, decided to update its design, the owners turned to Manhattan-based design studio Alvarez-Brock Design to reinvent the bar/lounge and main ballroom. While distinctive traditional architecture still grounds the spaces, an infusion of bold, contemporary design elements have brought a modern sophistication to the property’s event experience.
The bar/lounge is a “garden of light”, inspired by a classical open air atrium. Doric columns create a colonnade on either side of the room around the earth-toned lounge furniture and the bar area. Above the columns, backlit, highly polished stainless steel screens—laser-cut with a leaf pattern—run the perimeter of the high walls, bathing the seating light like that of dappled trees. At the bar, three modern etched mirrored “trees” branch from floor to ceiling, and punctuate the atrium illusion.
Adjacent to the bar is the luxurious lounge, rich in color and texture. At its center, a stunning round, multi-striped carpet anchors a large circular seating area of green velvet brocade—the ultimate in luxe communal seating. Outside the circular seating are tan leather club chairs with views to the fire place and its floor to ceiling white marble surround. Sixteen crystal chandeliers are suspended from the bronze-mirrored tray ceiling, adding the perfect sparkle to the deep-hued space.
