The scope of this project included the replacement of an existing rear addition with a new two-storey addition, interior renovations, and a redesign of the garden. The exterior of the new addition is characterized by a mix of dark and light-stained cedar siding, detailed copper flashing, siding and scuppers, and bright orange accents at the entrance – a theme that is continued throughout the house. The new addition houses the main bathroom and an intimate deck at the second floor, a bright open sunroom and rear-entry homework area and pantry at the ground floor, and a cheerful mudroom at the basement level accessed by a bright and colourful open stairwell bathed in natural light.
The new addition connects the historic house with the garden, creating a tree house-like property with overlooking views – perfect for watching the kids playing in the yard.
Nine years later, PLANT was hired to renovate the kitchen to finally connect to the rear addition work, and with new openings into the hall to bring the view and light deeper into the house.
