Looking to build a new, modern home facing Westwood Park in the West Plaza neighborhood of Kansas City, the client asked the designers to turn their ideas into a cohesive reality.
The plan is organized to maximize views to the park and provide entertaining spaces throughout. The working kitchen allows the mess of food prep to stay out of sight, while the “entertaining” kitchen is wonderful for social gatherings. The front Den is the perfect room for a book club night with a lovely view of the park and doubles as a guest room with a Murphy Bed integrated into the casework. The family room at the rear connects to the kitchen and opens to the back deck and intimate backyard. The second-floor Den connects the media center to the roof deck with stunning park views.
Accessible design elements are incorporated to accommodate a visiting family member in need and include an elevator, wheelchair-accessible restrooms, and a fully accessible bedroom suite at the lower level with easy egress access.
A high-performing envelope and building systems were integral to the project’s success. Solar panels, all-electric mechanical and plumbing systems, and induction cooktops help reduce energy use, lower the carbon footprint, and contribute to greatly improved indoor air quality.
Simple, low-maintenance materials, modern windows, and a strong party give the home a clean, modern look with fresh curb appeal.
