A passion for boating and water sports informed every design decision at West Marine’s Fort Lauderdale flagship.
With 325 stores in the United States, Canada, and Puerto Rico, West Marine is the world’s largest specialty retailer of boating supplies and accessories. In Fort Lauderdale, the yachting and sport fishing capital of the world, West Marine saw an opportunity to create its first 50,000-sf flagship store providing yacht and skiff-owners alike with one-stop shopping in an environment designed to capture the imaginations of boaters of all kinds.
Designed to resemble the bridge of a luxury yacht, the electronics department is a destination at the center of the store. From here, customers navigate to other “worlds” devoted to fishing, boats and motors, water sports, and apparel departments that pinwheel around electronics. Bergmeyer polished and refined West Marine’s fixtures and finishes with a level of craftsmanship that put them in league with fine seagoing vessels.
As West Marine plans new store locations and renovates its many island outposts, Bergmeyer’s design strategy will allow the company to plot a course to brand continuity.
