This project involves the comprehensive renovation of a unique 1,600-square-meter ancillary building situated beneath the iconic Leifeng Pagoda, part of the Ten Scenic Spots of the West Lake in Hangzhou. As a core dining space adjacent to a UNESCO World Heritage site, the fundamental design challenge was to create a high-end culinary experience that embodies a contemporary spirit while engaging in a seamless dialogue with the thousand-year-old poetic essence of West Lake.

The transformation is centered on translating the artistic conception of West Lake through a contemporary artistic language. The design completely breaks away from the enclosed layout of traditional banquet halls. By integrating a large-scale central art installation titled "Floating Clouds"—which combines dynamic water mist, lighting, and sculptural forms—it reconstructs the hazy aesthetic of "misty mountains under drizzling rain" within the interior. The spatial arrangement radiates outward from this central installation in fluid, arc-like ripples, creating multiple sensory quadrants. The use of mirrored ceilings, interweaving reality and illusion, further dissolves physical boundaries, crafting an infinitely extending dreamscape of rain and mist. The private dining areas continue this serene landscape ambiance through curved circulation pathways and simulated natural lighting scenes, maintaining tranquility within seclusion.

The value of this renovation extends far beyond mere programmatic upgrade; it represents a pioneering practice in "democratizing art" and "activating heritage." It introduces a contemporary art installation from the museum into an everyday consumption setting, making the profound aesthetics of West Lake tangible, perceptible, and immersive. This realizes the vision of "letting art permeate life within reach." The project successfully transforms the geographical advantage of being beneath Leifeng Pagoda into a unique cultural experience advantage, elevating the act of "dining" into a multi-dimensional sensory and spiritual feast. It demonstrates how design, within the context of a top-tier cultural heritage site, can employ a deft contemporary approach to awaken and connect history, nature, and human emotion, shaping a globally recognizable destination consumption experience.
