This 10-car sleeper excursion train with a maximum capacity of 34 passengers began operation in June 2017 on 5 routes in western Japan.
The concept is "a hotel rolling through the beautiful Japanese landscape", with "superior-quality nostalgia" added to blend in nostalgia for the world of one's childhood or parents.
The observation cars at both ends have glass windows up to the ceiling so even the stars can be seen, and passengers can also go outside on the end decks. The central dining car has a formal interior with black and white main tones, and the lounge car with a bar and standing tea ceremony table has a unified design of calming natural rosewood. 13 Royal Twin rooms offer beds that store in the wall, different furnishings so that no two rooms are alike, and by opening the doors and movable walls, views can be enjoyed from the large windows on the left and right. The 2 single rooms are compact but well-equipped. The Suite, a global rarity of an entire high-decker train car being used for a single suite, with scenic views from large windows extending to the floor and skylights, and special care taken in many areas, such as providing a private balcony and a bathtub, etc.
The entire train is unique, with all guest room doors made from wood native to prefectures along the train line, braided wall joints, carved metal switch plates, etc. and original interiors, furniture, fixtures, crafts, art, signs, etc. plus tea utensils made by "The Ten Designated Craftsmen of Senke".
In addition, equipment for departure station lounges, gates, and each stop's station buildings, restaurants, buses for touring each region, etc. were all purchased at the same time, enabling total enjoyment of a new travel style.
