10 Well Street is a grade II listed house which has undergone a programme of restoration, reconfiguration and extension.
The ground floor of the house was extensively re-planned, with the addition of an 8-metre long extension as the principal living space. The extension was designed with a simple pitched roof-form to sit sensitively within it’s historic context, while the slight shift in levels between the interior floor level and the garden was harnessed to create an unusual and intimate relationship with the garden. A trapezoidal oak door leads to a shallow flight of three brick steps up to garden level. The seat-height cill of the large, frameless, corner-glazed window is level with the ground outside, creating seamless visual continuity between inside and out.
